# ToolCall

> The merged state of one tool call: the initial update with every subsequent for the same folded in.

The merged state of one tool call: the initial `tool_call` update with
every subsequent `tool_call_update` for the same `toolCallId` folded in.
`tool_call` events carry this snapshot rather than the raw patch.

## Properties

**canceled** `boolean` *required*

Whether the call was canceled before completing (`cognition.ai/canceled`).

**content** `ToolCallContent[]` *required*

**Type:** `ToolCallContent[]`

**detail** `ToolCallDetail` *required*

Which tool this is and what it was given, the same on local and cloud agents.

**id** `string` *required*

**inferenceToolName** `undefined | string` *required*

The model-facing tool name (`cognition.ai/inferenceToolName`).

**kind** `undefined | string` *required*

ACP tool kind (`execute`, `edit`, `fetch`, `think`, …).

**locations** `ToolCallLocation[]` *required*

**Type:** `ToolCallLocation[]`

**meta** `Record\<string, unknown\>` *required*

The merged `_meta` across the call's updates (later keys win).

**rawInput** `unknown` *required*

**rejected** `boolean` *required*

Whether the call was rejected, e.g. by a permission decision (`cognition.ai/rejected`).

**status** `ToolCallStatus` *required*

Human-readable title, e.g. the command being run.

The agent-recorded tool name (`cognition.ai/toolName`), e.g. an MCP tool.
